What is 319SR alloy?

The 319SR alloy is a variation of the standard 319 aluminum alloy. The “SR” means that a chemical element called Strontium has been added. Strontium is an alkaline earth metal that’s used as a grain refiner and modifier to enhance the mechanical properties of the alloy, particularly its ductility and strength.

319SR Alloy Common Uses

Just like the 319 Alloy, the 319SR is most commonly used in automotive parts, but where enhanced mechanical properties are required. Some examples of common uses are:

  • Automotive Parts: Engine blocks, cylinder heads, pistons, suspension components, and other critical components that require high strength and ductility.
  • Aerospace Components: Parts that need to withstand high stress and demanding conditions such as, turbine blades, aircraft fuselage components, landing gear, and structural frames.
  • Industrial Applications: Machinery parts, housings, gearboxes, valves and fittings, and other components where enhanced mechanical properties are beneficial.
  • General Castings: Applications requiring a combination of good castability, strength, and ductility.

319SR Alloy Composition

Similar to 319 but often includes strontium (SR) as a modifier.

319SR Alloy Properties

Strontium modification improves the mechanical properties by refining the silicon structure, leading to better strength and ductility.
